Program Overview:
Well-designed and constructed buildings protect occupants’ wellbeing by ensuring optimal indoor environmental quality. As documented in Materials Pledges, the design community has asked manufacturers to do their part by working towards manufacturing holistically sustainable products.
This course begins with an overview of key certifications and declarations that support sustainable building initiatives. Next, an overview of the stone wool substrate and how it enhances interior spaces, specifically acoustic ceiling panels.
We will define indoor environmental quality (IEQ), a term coined by the USGBC in LEED and now used throughout the built environment. Deconstructing IEQ, by beginning with analyzing acoustic comfort in interior spaces and its impact on occupant health.
Then, indoor air quality (IAQ) emphasizing the importance of low-emitting materials and mold protection.
Learning Objectives:
- Review major product sustainability certifications to look for when selecting healthy interior finishes.
- Learn how stone wool positively impacts indoor environmental quality
- thru inherent characteristics and capabilities.
- Define then describe key elements of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) that support occupant health and wellbeing.
- Learn how acoustic comfort is central to human health in the healthcare, education and office design.
- Examine indoor air quality and elements that determine the safety of occupants breathing it.
